Finding Baltimore: Intro into Community Arts
Elements of Visual Thinking: Foundations
Freshman students in Elements of Visual Thinking foundation course explore their surroundings and community driven art processes by interviewing local Baltimoreans with their peers. This project resulted in collaborative artwork inspired by collected community stories and their own experience of Baltimore. Works most often allude to issues around identity, class and race.
Finding Baltimore is a studio elective for Freshman students at the Maryland Institute College of Art. Students are introduced to community arts and socially driven art making. This project engaged 17 students in designing and creating collaborative mural projects at John Eager Howard Elementary School.
